I like to be able to see things in my rig. Another Nitro owner inspired this mod (KEES), but instead of a LED, I decided to go with a license plate light inside the console. I didn't want it to be white so I painted the cover with some green paint.

The chrome cover directs the light down into the console so there is no glare.

I purchased a door switch for $3.29 at Schucks (I think is was for an 87 S10. Part # BWD S1067), but there was no female plug for it. So I made one from an old computer cable I had sitting around. I only needed 2 wires so I cut off what I needed. Before...

Connected to the switch.

I then removed the center console and took the inside out of the storage area to mount the light. On the right side was the perfect spot because of the indentation. It won't get bumped easily there.

For the switch, the right rear of the console had the perfect spot to install it. I used a file to enlarge and round out the square hole that was already there. Slipped in the switch, which has tabs to hold it in place.

I re-installed the storage section back into the console.

I ran a wire from the lighter power wire, to the switch, to the light, to ground. I used bullet connectors so I can disconnect them if I need to remove the console again.

You can also see how I wired my cup holder lights in this one.

Put the console back in the rig, cut a slot in the back cover, top piece to accommodate the switch.

I had to wait for night to get the final Pic with it on.

The switch works great. The light only comes on when the lid is open.
